Abstract
José Rodrigues dos Santos’ Sinal de Vida begins in the Vatican with the interruption of the wedding of Tomás Noronha, an acknowledged cryptanalyst, by the Secretary of State of the Holy See due to the discovery accomplished by an astronomical observatory who has detected a 1.42 megahertz radio frequency emission, associated with hydrogen and the possibility of proving the existence of extraterrestrial life, and the later discovery of a mysterious object heading towards the Earth. Consequently, NASA organises an international space mission to intercept the unknown object and Tomás Noronha is called upon to help decipher the extraterrestrial messages.
This book provides a detailed description of NASA astronaut training and requirements While also delving into the rising tensions between global powers and the geopolitical conflicts that arise in moments of uncertainty.
This novel explores diverse topics such as Astrobiology and Astronomy reflecting on the SETI program, the Fermi Paradox and the “Dark Forest” theory related with the dangers of the communication with extraterrestrial life, it also explores Quantum Physics and Mathematics through the use of Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle, Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorems and its relation with the questioning of realities nature, the association with Schrödinger’s cat theory and a focus of the mathematic constant π as a potential code of the universe. In terms of Aerospatiale engineering, this novel incorporates a detailed description of the Soyuz spacecraft. And lastly, it delves into the evolutionary biology of the life we know on our planet, debating theories such as Neo-Darwinism, incorporating the importance of genetic mutation and natural selection in the evolution of species, citing biologists such as Stephen Jay Gould in the debate of the inevitable raising of consciousness as an evolutionary stage. The novel evolves around the Cosmic Imperative of the realisation that maybe human consciousness, intelligence, and life itself are not a mere accident but an unavoidable evolution of the universe, ending with the question of whether humanity is truly alone in the universe or if life has a defined purpose.
