Abstract

Destaques desportivos relativos ao boxe europeu. Noticia-se que existia o desejo de que Inglaterra integrasse a International Boxing Union – fundada em Paris, em 1911 –, e o autor apresenta novidades sobre os pugilistas britânicos Jimmy Wilde (1892-1969), Bugler Lake (1902-1970) e a sua vitória sobre “Marrison” – possivelmente Tommy Harrison (1892-1931) –, Danny Frush (1897-1961), Billy Matthews (1902?-1967), Seaman Hall (1892-1953),“’Kid’ Ted Lenus” ou “’Kid’ Ted Lemis” – que, como se verifica posteriormente, é, de facto, Ted Lewis (1893-1970) –, Rolland Todd (1900-1969), “Mic Mac Tigue” – possivelmente Mike McTigue (1892-1966) – e Joe Beckett (1892-1965). O autor faz, ainda, uso dos anglicismos “box”, “fly-weight”, “match”, “bantam-weight”, “welter”, “dollars”, “middle-weight”, “cruiser-weight” e “light-heavy-weight”, a par de “challenge” ou “challenger” e “kid”.
