Abstract

Set in 2048 after the U.S. fractures into multiple nations, this novel portrays San Francisco as a sustainable, ecotopian society led by women, where local agriculture and wind power flourish. As a theocratic Christian nation from the south plans to wage war against them, the story told through the perspectives of 98-year-old Maya and her grandchildren, Madrone and Bird, contrasts utopian ecofeminism with dystopian oppression.
