Abstract

The novel is classified as science fiction and follows two men, Professor Toby and a wealthy American, James Brandok, from the 19th century. They decide to ingest a poison that is supposed to keep them asleep until the future. When they wake up in the year 2000, they explore the new world with all its technological advancements and social changes. The book is considered to be capturing a 19th-century overview of the future, and showcasing the pros and cons of technological advancement of the society.
