Abstract

This illustration depicts several fishwives on the quays along the river Tagus, in Lisbon. It appears they are waiting for the fishermen to arrive in their boats in order to fill their baskets with fish and take it to be sold in markets or around town. There are several boats alongside the coast of the river, as well as the city of Lisbon in the background.
