dc.description.abstract | The Terraformers is set in a distant future where the process of terraformation has become possible. Initially, the novel follows Environmental Rescue Team Ranger Destry Thomas on planet Sask-E, where the process of creating an Earth-like environment is ongoing. This planetary engineering technique involves the creation and preservation of multiple ecosystems within the planet, and it focuses on the several technological procedures to make Sask-E inhabitable, such as, for example, the use and redirection of lava flows to create volcanic soils for forests. The objective of the Environmental Rescue Team is to establish communication with other life forms to manage land more democratically and prevent “apocalyptic floods”. As the process of terraforming Sask-E continues, the need arises for using eco-friendly technologies that have the least impact on the planet’s environment, such as biodegradable railways. In addition to the aspects surrounding terraformation, the novel also addresses gene editing, which is largely used among humans, making homo sapiens an outdated human species. | |
