Light is the first novel in the Kefahuchi Tract trilogy, and presents the reader three very different individuals: Michael Kearney, Seria Mau Genlicher, and Ed Chianese. Kearney, living in London in the year 1999, is a physicist dedicated to exploring quantum computing with his colleague Brian Tate, also researching the relationship between mathematics and prophecies, and wishing to escape to a hypothetical future that still does not exist. While extremely dedicated to his research, Kearney is also a serial killer, who is driven to kill by a mysterious entity known as The Shrander. Seria Mau Genlicher’s story happens in the future (25th century), and it is revealed that she transferred her consciousness to her spaceship, who is able to travel through numerous dimensions. She is a pirate, and is also prone to murder, frequently interacting with The Shrander as well. Lastly, Ed Chianese, whose story is also set in the 25th century, and who is presented as Seria’s brother, spends most of his time immersed in virtual worlds. Besides the mysterious Shrander, there is also a strange phenomenon defined as a cosmic anomaly which contains artifacts left behind by alien species, and comes to unite all characters: the Kefahuchi Tract, which is able to be explored by Seria and Ed due to the discoveries made by Kearney and Tate in 1999.
