Abstract
A prequel to the award-winning and bestselling video game BioShock (2007), BioShock: Rapture follows the story of Andrew Ryan, a Russian-born American oil magnate living in the 1940s who decides to build an underwater art deco city, following the deployment of the atomic bomb in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, before the end of the Second World War. This city, called Rapture, displays several innovative and morally questionable technologies, and despite having been built with the intention of creating a utopian paradise centered, to a large extent, on social Darwinist principles, it soon becomes a dystopian nightmare from which there is no escape.
