Abstract
Old Man’s War follows John Perry in a universe teeming with abundant and distinct life forms, and where space exploration is common and needed, as several species from different planets compete for the ones that are able to sustain life. Perry is part of the Colonial Defense Forces, which are tasked with protecting human interplanetary colonists; as a result, he participates in several battles with aliens, as well as establishing communication with them. One particularity about Perry is that his mind is transferred to a new genetically engineered body as part of his integration in the Colonial Defense Forces: he appears younger than his 75 years of age, and possesses an enhanced musculature and eyesight, as well as more strength, flexibility and dexterity. Furthermore, the new body also comes with a neural interface that allows Perry to communicate telepathically with several members of the Colonial Defense Forces. Besides giving the reader interesting insights on biology through the presentation of alien beings, the novel also addresses scientific research and advancements in the field of genetic engineering and technology.
