Abstract

This illustration shows a typical portuguese scene in which two women return from a market in Leiria. The illustration is drawn from the perspective of someone who stands in front of them and watches them get closer. One of them is riding a donkey, while the other one carries a basket on her head, both common practices of those times (early 20th century). They are walking through a street characterized by white houses and an arched corridor, through which they pass.
