The novel presents Artemis, the first and only city on the Moon, where Jasmine, a smuggler, is offered a business opportunity which intends to help a wealthy client take over an important company. This company requires free energy in exchange for providing the oxygen to the city. While carrying out her endeavours, Jasmine visits the Apollo 11 landing site, and the reader gets to know more about this technologically advanced era, where transmission of data is made possible without repeaters, small robots are tasked with a number of chores, and where business transactions, accessing the internet, and telecommunications are possible through the use of small computers called gizmos.
